MENTAL HEALTH AND SPORTS: NOT A RED CARD OFFENCE

The second annual Not a Red Card event was held at The Oval in London, in November sponsored by Legal and General and this time incorporating awards for mental health initiatives in the corporate world that helped to tackle the stigma and prove it’ s not a “red card” offence to talk about and address mental health in the workplace.

The host for the event was BBC’s sports presenter Gabby Logan and with talks and interviews in the morning and focus groups and the awards in the afternoon it was an interesting day.

CIC-EAP partner Ian Braid, MD of DOCIAsport, spoke at the event sharing a panel discussion with Clarke Carlisle former professional footballer and chair of the PFA and Kelly Smith former England and Arsenal footballer. All spoke about their own mental health challenges and explained what business could learn from sport – both good and bad.

Ian’s work on addressing the challenges of mental health in the sport sector can be seen here and here as he speaks about the challenges and the motivation to carry on with his work.
