Dying To Work Certification

Employers across the UK have signed a pledge to support terminally ill staff in their organisations, recognising that terminal illness requires support and understanding, as well as adequate employment protection.

The charter states:

“Terminally ill workers will be secure in the knowledge that we will support them following their diagnosis and we recognise that safe and reasonable work can help maintain dignity, offer a valuable distraction and can be therapeutic in itself.” Read more.

CiC lost a much loved member of staff in 2017 to terminal cancer, and we know how much they valued the support and ongoing friendship of their friends and colleagues in the company, during the last months of their life.  Work had been so very important for them, and they felt hugely comforted by the fact that the company supported them until the very end. Their family also appreciated help with finances and death in service benefits, and CiC is proud to commit to the Dying to Work Charter – that highlights practical as well as emotional support – particularly in the light of our own experience.

Our 24/7 helpline staff are well aware of the stressors placed on employees, who act as carers for the terminally ill and dying, and we have implemented a series of training programmes for managers and staff alike to help build resilience in the face of challenging periods in their personal lives.

For training enquiries, please contact our Training Manager, Harry Key, on hkey@cic-eap.co.uk or get in touch.
